A Landscape Like No Other
Pag is an island of dramatic contrasts. Its barren, lunar-like terrain on the eastern side gives way to lush Mediterranean vegetation in the west. The iconic Paški Bridge, stretching 300 metres and rising 27 metres above the sea, provides a spectacular gateway to this extraordinary island.
Natural Wonders
The island's nature reserves are remarkable. Veliko Blato, a wetland reserve spanning 462 hectares, is a haven for birdwatchers. On the southern tip, the Lun olive groves shelter around 80,000 olive trees, some over a thousand years old — living monuments to the island's ancient agricultural heritage.
Mysteries and Curiosities
Pag has its share of enigmas. The Paška Triangle, a mysterious formation measuring 32m × 32m × 22m, has attracted UFO enthusiasts and curious visitors alike. In Caska Bay, the submerged city of Cissa lies beneath the waves — a Roman settlement swallowed by the sea centuries ago. And in Novalja, a Roman underground aqueduct, carved through rock and 60 metres wide, still inspires awe.
Beaches and Nightlife
Zrće Beach has earned the nickname "Croatian Ibiza". During summer, its open-air clubs host world-class DJs and draw thousands of partygoers from across Europe. But Pag also has quieter beaches for those who prefer solitude over bass drops.
Culture and Craftsmanship
Paška lace is a centuries-old tradition recognized by UNESCO as part of the world's intangible cultural heritage. The intricate, needle-made lace is still produced by local women using techniques passed down through generations.
Food and Drink
Pag's culinary scene is defined by its terroir:
- Paški cheese (Paški sir) — a hard, sharp sheep's cheese flavoured by the salt-sprayed herbs the sheep graze on
- Sage honey — aromatic and uniquely Pag
- Baškotin biscuits — traditional twice-baked treats from Novalja
- Boškinac winery — producing award-winning wines from indigenous grape varieties
Active Adventures
For the adventurous, Pag delivers. The Via Ferrata "Life on Mars" climbing route takes you across the island's otherworldly rock faces with guided safety. The annual Granfondo Pag cycling marathon draws cyclists from around the region to tackle the island's challenging terrain with stunning coastal views at every turn.
